Central Co-Operative

Central Co-operative is one of the largest independent retail co-operative societies in the UK.
It is a modern, forward-looking organisation employing over 8,000 staff, with the Society’s principal areas of activity being food, funeral services, travel shops, and property investment.

Central Co-operative has over 430 trading outlets across 16 counties including; West Midlands, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Central Co-operative is proud of its reputation for ethical business practices and corporate responsibility. The Society supports several charities including Dementia UK and FareShare Midlands, with which it partners in a ground-breaking food redistribution project. It is proud of its position in the heart of local communities, working closely with a range of local causes, schools and community groups, supporting food bank partners with year-round collection points and running seasonal appeals.

Becoming a member of Central Co-operative offers a whole host of benefits ranging from collecting points every time you spend in store to earn a share of the profits, access to members activities and community initiatives including the Community Dividend Fund, which hands out grants of up to £5,000 to charities and good causes across the Society’s trading estate. The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities in a bid to help projects to thrive across its trading area.

The Southern Membership & Community Council are pleased to financially support a number of member groups across the region from Bands & Choirs, Friendship & Photography Groups to Drama groups, including both the Ratae Co-operative Players and Whetstone Drama Group.  The Council also offer a number of educational and recreational courses for members from Keep Fit, Watercolour Painting, Calligraphy, Floristry & Soft Furnishings to name but a few.
