Whetstone Drama Youth Group
The group now has over 25 talented young members, the ages range from 5 - 18 years old. Several members of the youth group had originally been involved with other productions when the opportunity arose. It was decided to give the younger members their own opportunity to take the lead in their own production.
Their first full production was the successful ‘The Five Golden Tickets’ directed by Sandra Sutcliffe. It was a very witty and thoroughly entertaining version of ' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ’. It was delightfully performed on four nights and was a sell out.
The youth group were invited to take part in our bi annual event ‘ The Whetstone Christmas Show. ’ This was a great success and the audience was thoroughly entertained. They have joined in with our Queen sing-a-long, participated in The Beatles Melody and took part in a Centenary Remembrance of World War One.
The youth members performed a comedy version of ‘ Officer Krupke ’ from ‘ West Side Story ’ and their very own version of a circus from ‘Barnum. ’ They took on a challenge of performing an updated version of ‘ A Christmas Carol 2013 ’.
The youth group was soon back on stage for their next production of of Ian Fleming’s favourite ‘ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ’. This Production was a sell too. Delightful characters, and wonderful performances made this a production to remember.
In 2015 the group started to work on a Charles Dicken’s classic ‘ Oliver! ’. This production had it all, singing, dancing, drama and suspense. The youth group worked really hard to achieve a production our audience’s would never forget, and they achieved this. Once again, each night was a sell out, the audience’s were all singing along to the iconic songs, and giving the wonderful cast of the youth group a standing ovation.
In 2018 Whetstone Drama’s Youth Group, was directed by one of our new directors Ben Thomas. He chose a play that would not only challenge the children but also, the set team and technical team too. He took us on a journey down the yellow brick road “The Wizard of Oz!”. This production ran for 4 nights and was a sell out and a production to remember!
In 2019 the youth group will be taking the leads in The Blitz Club - directed by Carrie Peters.
