Oscar Wilde's 1895 play The Importance of Being Earnest is a witty comedy of manners about Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who adopt the false persona "Ernest" to woo Gwendolen Fairfax and Cecily Cardew, respectively. They navigate absurd misunderstandings and the stern Lady Bracknell before it is revealed Jack is actually named Ernest and is Algernon’s brother.
